Announcements:
Team Reports – Paul Webb talked about membership and the idea of exploring different ways of attracting new members.  The subject of modifying By Laws to accommodate ideas was discussed. More to follow.
Sydna Koontz – Thanked the Club for its continued support of Partner’s for Parks for over 10 years.  As a Thank You she extended an invitation to all club members to come share a hot dog and s’mores at Fort Steilacoom Park on Friday September 21stat 5:30 pm. Drop in and hear about the next Park Project.  RSVP to Sydna.
Bob Lawrence – distributed a flyer for the upcoming Lakewood Film-Arts-Books (FAB) Festival.  This event will be held on September 28-30 at the McGavick Center on Steilacoom Blvd.
Vice-President John – made a plug for the upcoming Theater Benefit, Brighton Beach Memoirs.  He is sure that it will be a delight for all to see!
 
Presidents Time.
David Cotant – Shared his Rotary Moment with us.  David joined this club in 1987 at the urging of Tom Faubion.  A few years later, he succeeded Tom as Club President.  David took the opportunity as President to attend the Rotary International Conference in Barcelona Spain prior to his year as President.  During that Conference, Jerry Lewis was honored and received a Paul Harris and Mikhail Gorbachev was a speaker.  This story was relayed to underscore the types of impressive activities that encourages Rotary participation and displays the level of Rotary involvement internationally.

David Cotant - Celebrating his 7thwedding anniversary and a Wachter. 
 
Sydna Koontz – celebrating 52 years of marriage.
 
John Munn– paid a Wachter made the appropriate gesture for his 45thBirthday.
 
Marie Barth – “Ratted on a Rotarian”(Becky Newton).  
 
Becky Newton- shared that she received an award for (Ambassador of the Year from the City of Lakewood).
 
Renae Hannah– is back from a fun and travel filled summer.
 
Judi Maier– is back for a short while and paid-up before the boat repairs are collected.
 
Today’s Program:
Officer Jim Syler is a 19 year law enforcement veteran, and a founding member of the Lakewood Police Department.   His primary task is to serve as a Pierce County Trainer for K9 Police dogs. Earlier this year Officer Syler participated in exchange training with a police organization in Slovakia.  Officer Syler explained the process of how dogs are selected and trained for this important aspect in police and security related operations. Officer Syler provides a priceless service to our community. His expertise is also instrumental to training programs throughout the county.  
 
Raffle Drawing:
Joyce Oubre held the winning ticket this week, but unfortunately she did not draw an Ace.... $5.00 collected.  We are down to 9 cards and one ace remaining.  Next week could be your week!
