Announcements:
 
President Heidi – Opened today with an update on the status of Polio Eradication Worldwide.  Her source was a recent Time Magazine article which discusses the efforts in some detail. 
Reminded everyone that this month’s Club Fellowship will be conducted at Lakewood Ram, Thursday October 25thfrom 5:00 -7:00pm.  Come out and relax a bit.  
 
President Heidi- recognized our Rotarian of the Month as Ret General Bill Harrison for his longtime service to this community.  Congratulations Gen Bill!!
 
President Heidi– recognized John Munn and Becky Newton for their efforts to begin an Interact Club in association with Harrison Preparatory School.
 
 
President Heidi- presented a recap of the Friday October 19th Board Meeting. 
 
Joyce Oubre– announced that the Board made a decision on which School to support for the holiday basket and clothes shopping.  Our club will deliver holiday baskets to families from Custer Elementary.  Joyce also mentioned that our holiday shopping event will be done for the benefit of Tyee Park Elementary students. Tyee Park Elementary is one of 4 schools being supported with this year’s West Pierce Fire & Rescue Holiday Gifting Program. Joyce distributed a sign-up sheet for those who want to support Christmas shopping.

Birthdays – Tom McClellan is celebrating his 39.5 birthday (for more than the first time)
 
Becky Newton – was again cited in media for receiving Ambassador of the Year for the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce...$25.
 
Paul Webb – paid $2.00 to “Rat” on Karl Roth. Karl took a weeklong trip to England and France recently to see the sights and take in the Seahawks game in London. Karl paid $50 for 7 nights.  
 
Marie Barth – “Ratted” on Karen George for a very thoughtful note of thanks received she received from Karen recently.  The note was actually dated Feb 2016.
 
Today’s Program:
 
 
 
Dr. Dan Strickman is a well educated Entomologist who currently works for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. His presentation centered around the effects of Malaria and and advances in combating this problem in regions where it is prevalent.  This was an interesting and informative presentation.
