Meeting called to order by President Sheri Hodson.
Tom McClellan provided the invocation, and since there were no detectable lightning bolts following that invocation, the presumption is that it was deemed acceptable by the approval authority.

There were no visiting Rotarians; however former Clover Park Rotarian Colleen Henry and her husband Dave were visiting the area and decided to come an lunch with us.
Alan Billingsley introduced his adorable granddaughter Hazel, who has been with us so long and so often that we really ought to get her a badge. What classification would she fall into?
Sunshine report: Pam Trobaugh is undergoing surgery, so Ed Trobaugh was away. It is all planned and expected to go well. And Tom McClellan will be receiving a new right hip at St. Clare hospital, although not soon enough to please him. Please keep each of them in your prayers.
Bonnie Boyle reminded everyone to let her know if you’ve made up a meeting – or write the information in on the weekly attendance roster.
Upcoming events and/or commitments for our club:
Alan Billingsley related that the Spaghetti Feed, Literacy Night, and Book Fair will be held on March 5. Please sign up if you can help with any or all of these events. If you missed the clipboard signup and can be there, please email Alan. There are 600 Southgate students and they and their families are all invited for a free meal, so we need all hands on deck to make this a success.
David Cotant opened the Rotary store, which has a supply of special Clover Park Rotary aprons, suitable for wear at all occasions (including our upcoming spaghetti feed) for $25.00 each. He also has Rotary pins (traditional and magnetic), Rotary clothing, and other interesting items.
Performance of Southgate students at the Lakewood Playhouse will be on March 21. The 11:00 a.m. performance will be for Rotarians and the 2:00 performance will be for Southgate families. Headsets will be available for those who need help to hear the performance. We will be getting buses together to transport students to the theater and will be putting together food for the students.
Bob Lawrence shared with us that this year’s Arts Fest will be held on May 2-3 at Pierce College, which will feature international art, art from Pierce College students and Lakewood School District students. Last year's event had over 1000 attendees, and this year the honchos are expecting triple that amount. Stay tuned for further updates.
District Leadership training will be held in Centralia on March 28-29. Please contact Joyce Loveday if you would like to attend.
Harrison Preparatory Grand Opening will be held March 26, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. All are welcome to attend.
Two truths and a lie Bob Lawrence shared the following:
1 – In the early 1990s, Bob was attending school in Harvard and took a number of interesting classes (truth)
2 – In the early 2000s he had a chance to fly with the Collings Foundation Museum staff for a 4th of July school. He was flying the B 17 rather than the B 24 – otherwise it was the truth.
3 – in 2014 had a chance to cook 3 turkey dinners with all the fixings for 6, 10 and 12 people and did all of the dishes (truth).
Memorable fines and stories with Heidi Wachter and Mason Hudson
It was President Sheri Hodson’s birthday for which she received a song and responded by making the appropriate contribution. It was observed by several present that this rendition was one of the better-sung episodes this whole year. Conclude from that what you wish.
Joyce Loveday received some ink as a result of Clover Park Technical College’s accreditation. She explained the importance of it and contributed $50.00 to the club since she is very proud of her school and the accreditation.
Karen Fengler-Nichols is now back from the 20 days in the Caribbean and Mexico, where they enjoyed great weather. She contributed $100.00 to her Paul Harris.
After repeated entreaties for members to offer $5 confessions, Karl Roth finally confessed to attending the Phoenix Open on a recent trip to Arizona - $10.00 ($5.00 for being late and $5.00 for the trip), which he was able to pay in cash. His outstanding Wachter is still on the books.
Today’s speaker: Our speaker did not show up today, so Heidi Wachter filled in by sharing with the club the recommended updates to our club's Child Protection Policy. It has been a few years since that document has been reviewed and updated. Heidi and Grant Blinn and reviewed our policies and recommended a few changes. More work remains to be done.
The purpose of the policy is to make sure that all of our volunteers know what to do if they receive information about possible abuse and to protect both children and volunteers. When the policy is approved it will be available on the website.
